Making New Year's resolutions is a great way to start out the new year right. Whether you are wanting to get healthy, lose weight, save money, find a new partner, or change your life in other ways, making a New Year's promises is the first step toward getting what you want out of a new you. The toughest part, however, is finding a way to stick to all those New Year's resolutions you make. Here are some tips for making New Year's resolutions that you'll stick with and finding a way to motivate yourself to change the things you want in life and find a happier you.
Be honest with yourself and decide what New Year's resolutions you can truly complete. Everyone wants to make a big list of New Year's resolutions they can do, but never have the time or the energy to follow through with them all. Rather than make a large list of ten or more things you wish to do in the New Years, try limiting the list to about 2 or 3 things you want the most. It will be a lot easier for you to follow through with a smaller amount of New Year's resolutions without frustration than it will to believe you can conquer everything you want to do. Keep your list short and sweet and your chances of staying motivated will increase ten fold.
Do one New Year's resolution at a time. Prioritize your New Year's resolutions and pick the most important one to conquer first. If you are determined to lose weight for the New Years, make that your first future goal. As you accomplish your first goal, move on to the next one, and so on. The trouble with making and breaking New Year's resolutions is that people tend to take on too many things all at once and become defeated when they are unable to finish all they set out to do. Take your time and do each New Year's resolution one by one. The idea of New Years resolutions is that you have at least a year to start them. There is no set limit on the amount of time you have to finish each one.
Make a list of thing you can do to accomplish your New Year's goals. For each New Year's resolution you make, create an outline of how you can complete each task. When you make a plan of how you're going to do each New Year's resolution, you will be more prepared to follow through with your goals. Without a proper plan in mind, you'll feel helpless and eventually give up on your resolutions all together. Try jotting down 3 or 4 things that will help you accomplish each New Year's resolution. If you are unsure of how to get there, ask a friend, family member, or even look online for more information. You'll be surprise at how much easier it is to accomplish tasks when you are prepared with a good solid plan.
Get support from friends, family, loved ones, and anybody else that can help you stick to your New Year's resolutions. Many people give up on their New Year's goals because they don't have support from others who can help keep them motivated. Trying to change things alone is not easy and can be self-defeating without a little help from others. Let friends and family know what your New Year's goals are and how they can help you to stay on track. Tell them what you need from them in order to stay motivated with your New Year's resolutions. Even if this means telling you 'no', 'don't do that', or simply 'I'm so proud of you'. Whatever it is you need for a good support system to stay on track with your New Year's resolutions, let your loved ones know so they can help.
Reward yourself for each week you stick to your New Year's resolutions. Giving yourself reward with help to keep you motivated and on track when it comes to sticking with New Year's goals. Treat yourself to spa treated massage when you lose that first 5 pounds, buy a new outfit when you've gone a week without smoking, or even buy yourself some jewelry when you've made it through the week without swearing. Whatever your New Year's resolutions are, reward yourself for good behavior when you've gone a certain period of time in accomplishing them. Everyone needs a pat on the back when they've gotten through a tough time and overcoming something you promised yourself is no different. Baby steps are the best way to stick with and accomplish New Year's resolutions. Each baby step deserves a treat when you've hit a mark you're proud of.
